By now you have may have seen various news articles regarding Whitney Houston on television or the Internet. You may have even caught the exclusive interview she granted Oprah Winfrey. If you haven’t let me in enlighten you on all the hoopla. SHE’S BAAAACK! That’s right Whitney is back… looking fabulous and sounding great.
Born August 9, 1963 in Newark, NJ, Whitney Elizabeth Houston catapulted to stardom in the 80’s. Although her self-titled debut album, which was released in 1985, started slow out of the gates, it was a success the following year with three singles appearing in the number one slot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Selling over 25 million copies worldwide, this is still Whitney’s best-selling studio album to date.
Over the years Whitney continued to have grandiose success with other studio albums and soundtracks. She even emerged as a talented actress with lead roles in “Waiting to Exhale”, “The Preacher’s Wife” and the ever popular “The Bodyguard”. As with many celebrities success didn’t come without a hefty price tag for Whitney though. After marrying Bobby Brown (formerly of New Edition) Whitney’s life started spiraling out of control at a breakneck speed. There were many struggles in her marriage including drug abuse. Eventually, one of the greatest voices ever heard was off the scene completely. So it seemed.
However, in late August of this year the world was gifted with the release of Whitney’s sixth studio album “I Look to You”. I have heard mixed reviews about the album but in my opinion Whitney has pulled off the comeback story of the year. A couple of weeks after the albums release Whitney appeared on the “Oprah Winfrey” show in a 2-day candid interview, where she discussed her life after the music. She talked about her marriage and her struggle with drug addiction. She also shared how she was able to break free from all of those demons and rise again to give the world what they’d been longing for, another soul-stirring masterpiece.
This week “I Look to You” is number two on the Top 200 Albums chart and I am sure it will be another huge success for Whitney. If you were not able to catch the 2-day interview please click here for an opportunity to read the transcript or go to www.oprahwinfrey.com.
Whitney has a long, hard road ahead of her but I believe she is strong and has the faith required to make it all the way! Good luck Whitney.
